Culture Park presents The Everlasting Itch: Meditations on Water and Longing, a theatrical journey into Moby Dick and on board the Pequod.
The Everlasting Itch has performances on Saturday, August 4 & 11, 2001, a Moby Dick / Melville Year Anniversary Event at 3:00 pm.
The Everlasting Itch is a 35-minute play with video and slide projections, based on Moby Dick by Herman Melville and adapted by Patricia Thomas and Rebecca Schade of Culture Park. Performed by Providence-based actor, Christopher Perrotti, this one-man show is a theatrical journey through New Bedford and on board the Pequod.
Suitable for all, The Everlasting Itch has received rave reviews from a range of audience members- from a girl scout troupe from the Hayden McFadden Elementary School in New Bedford, to scholars and historians, to members of the community interested in history and in experiencing a compelling theatre event. This is a perfect vehicle through which tourists visiting New Bedford in summer, 2001, may experience a bit of Moby Dick and New Bedford. Groups of young people who work in summer park programs or other venues in New Bedford and surrounding communities, might also be invited in groups to view the show this summer.
In addition, The Everlasting Itch could easily travel to schools (late April May, 2001 or September/Fall 2001) to support or highlight a Moby Dick Marathon, the comic book, or other Melville initiatives.
