CALL FOR SHORT PLAYS
Culture*Park is now accepting submissions of original plays for the 14th Annual Culture*Park
Short Plays Marathon, taking place Saturday, November 12, downtown New Bedford, in the Whaling Museum Theater. The interval for play submissions begins August 1, and the deadline for play submissions to reach Culture*Park is, September 15, 2016.
We welcome your play submissions!
Please note the following guidelines for submitting a play to the C*P Marathon 2016:
> Plays should have a 15 minute maximum running time (15 pages or fewer)
> Please submit one copy via email, as a .pdf
> Submissions should be in "standard play format"
> One play submission per playwright, please
> Include a (separate) cover page with playwright name and contact information
> Include a brief synopsis of the play and character breakdown
> Plays should be recent and never produced
> No re-submissions please
> Please confirm your availability to attend the Marathon on November 12 and participate in a brief panel discussion about your
play/process
> Seeking plays with regional themes or ‘the state of the union’. (Not required, though. All plays are considered.)
> Seeking plays by high school, and college/university students for the Students Plays segment
> Please email the play, cover page and synopsis to: [email protected] with “Marathon Submission” as the subject
> Submissions will be accepted between August 1 and September 15 – Deadline for submissions is 09/15/16
Plays will be read and selected by a committee of theater artists and writers. Selected plays will be posted on the Culture*Park website by Saturday, October 1, 2016, and playwrights will be contacted. The plays will be presented as staged readings by an ensemble of actors and directors on Saturday, November 12, 2016, beginning at 2pm, in the New Bedford Whaling Museum Theater. Culture*Park Theatre is a collaborative organization of theatre and performing artists, community members, and others who support the production and development of new works in theatre and dance, especially those with regional and culturally provocative themes. Through 13 past Marathons, Culture*Park has presented over 300 original short plays. Many of these new works have received further development, full production,
and/or publication.
